Nothing of Consequence

Wedding and Honeymoon Wrap-Up

In the end, it all came together. There were last minute decisions and minor complications, but they were minor and everything was wonderful… That is with the exception of the painful shoes both of us chose. The ceremony itself was absolutely wonderful.

The reception was also great all around. The food and wine were divine, and everyone seemed to have a great time as well. We did miss some genuine friends, but we knew their best wishes were with us.

The honeymoon started on a Monday and ended on a Thursday. Half in Newport (RI), and half in NYC. Newport is beautiful in a summer playground for the wealthy kind-of-way. NYC is very awesome in the size and scope of everything. Both places made me feel that if I worked for 25 years and saved my entire salary that I’d still be considered poor. It doesn’t bother me, because I know that both places are not indicative of the real world for most.

So I’ll stop rambling. Regardless of my impressions, everything for the past two weeks has been so wonderful. It’ll always bring a smile to my face for so many reasons.

Post-Nuptual (pt. 1)

We’re having some downtime on the short honeymoon, and while she is finishing reading the very long Gone with the Wind, I’m reading my newest issue of Atomic Ranch, playing spider solitaire, and writing this.

To back track, the ceremony and reception were absolutely fantastic. Some pictures will follow as they were taken as RAW files and will take time to process correctly. We relaxed the day after, and we drove to Newport, Rhode Island earlier today.

Vic has never been here, and it’s been around 20 years since I’d been here. After checking in, we drove down and walked a street that is lines with shops and restaurants. We ate at a pizza place a few blocks outside of the tourist stuff and was sketchy to say the least. But to our surprise it was great pizza. We’re seeking out seafood tomorrow before we venture into the land of exorbitant prices for everything (NYC).

Taking a turn in topic, we drove around the really famous neighborhoods of Newport earlier, and were struck by both the awesome nature of the architecture and the stratospheric nature of the wealth required to live and maintain such a residence now, let alone in the past. We’re talking hitting a large Powerball twice and still not coming close. Maybe the price of a Paul McCartney divorce these days… Just mind boggling…

On that note, I’m pretty tired today and hope to get to bed early since I can’t seem to sleep past 7 on average since I left Indy. I hope all is well with everyone.

Pre-Nuptual (pt. 4)

Finally got caught up on posting things I’d written and images I’d taken. So now I’m sitting in the B&B watching the rain come down and feeling like I’m hosting an episode of Canterbury Tales thanks to the classical music in the background. I need a pipe and a robe…
People are arriving all day today, and things will get more and more hectic as time slips through the hour glass… These are the Days… I couldn’t resist.

Pre-Nuptual (pt.3)

I’m in Brunswick this morning taking Dieter (the Jetta’s name) in for his first oil change. Everything has been pretty much what you’d expect from getting up at 6:30 in a strange bed and driving for 50 minutes to the world’s smallest VW dealership. The saving grace so far this morning was that there’s a Starbucks that I hit just down the street from here that I hit before finding the dealership.

The biggest surprise was that upon walking outside this morning, I was shocked when I was forced to squint in the cloudless, sunny sky. I don’t remember the last time I’d seen a blue sky.

Here’s to it remaining a blue and sunny sky for a few more days.

[This image is a photomontage from four images that Photoshop can automatically merge into a single image. Ahh, the wonders of technology. This was my view the morning of the 17th as I left to do things.]

Pre-Nuptual (pt. 2)

I made the drive in the record time of 17 hours and 45 minutes from Indianapolis to Pemaquid. Yes, I did break the sped limit, but only by an average of 7-8 mph during70% of the trip (the other 30% were much slower than the speed limit). And yeah, I’ve been through enough rain to make me consider a hovercraft as my next vehicle. I attribute my speedy trek to three things.

  1. The tdi: 40-45 mpg goes a long way with a 14 gallon tank
  2. Vic’s I-PASS – works as an EZ-PASS, hell yeah
  3. The never ending bladder – explains itself

I rolled in to Pemaquid sometime around 1:45 am this morning, and got a good 6 hours of sleep. Things didn’t fully click until after 3 cups of coffee this morning. My grandparents and I went to have breakfast at a very small local diner that I love and haven’t had the chance to go to in about 5 years. A very working-man’s type place, but it’s a place that sticks with you because it’s borderline seedy, yet very good.

Now I’m waiting for a phone call to meet my mother in before going on to Rockland to fully unload the cah (they pronounce car differently out here).

Pre-Nuptual (pt.1)

I’m currently taking a short break from the last stages of packing for my departure tomorrow. It’s a very exciting time, and I look forward to it all.

So I may or may not be able to update this while I’m out there. I should be able to… I might even add in an image or two.

A somewhat interesting side note, this is the first road trip in the tdi. Not only will I be able to see how good mileage it’ll get, but I may also get to try biodiesel for the first time (I’ve been told there are places to get it out there). Given some recent tanks, I’m expecting at least 45mpg for the highway tanks. So easily over 500 if I drive the full tank.
