Last week, I took a vacation to Crested Butte, Colorado. It’s a town my family has routinely visited since the mid 1980′s, but this is the first time I’ve been back in about 8 years. I’ve missed it.
It really struck me how much has changed. Sure, some things have stayed the same… But so much has actually changed. New businesses, new buildings, new restaurants, disappearance of old restaurants, etc. It was a little bit of a shock for me, since this was always a town that changed little and was always this sort of escape for myself. I realize that it’s always going to be major changes from time to time since I don’t experience the evolution like those that live there. But it’s just weird to have a built up base of experience at a town that is turned on its head from time to time. Anyway…
A bulleted list about the vacation…
- Driving straight through hurts more than is used to
- Adjusting to elevation is harder than before
- A few feet of snow over the first 48 hours rules
- Two days of fantastic snowmobiling
- Car outside thermometer hit -22
The negotiations have already begun about a return in the summer, but we’ll see. Definitely won’t drive straight through. I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’ll happen.
