I just completed the entire Firefly series and it’s theatrical ending Serenity.

Let’s just say I’m not impressed in much.

Sure, the movie had vastly superior production quality, but not so much so in terms superior story or acting ability.

I can see exactly why the show was a failure.  It’s perspective was just a little too…  off.  It just felt like it was trying to do too much, and trying to be too unique, with not nearly enough resources or dedication to pull it off.

And the film wasn’t too far behind.  Better effects, cinematography, choreography,  and supporting cast – but that’s about it.  The film was able to explain longer plot lines better and tie a nice bow on things, but it’s still a third rate sci-fi movie.

I don’t think I should have given this a chance.  I’ve never had a connection to Joss Whedon’s work, and this solidified it.

I’ll still give Battlestar a chance, but don’t bother with Firefly / Serenity unless you’re seriously into sci-fi or a big Joss Whedon fan.
