So the printing class is done.  Well, not technically.  This week would be the last class, but I’m missing it because I’m leaving for Maine on Friday.  Boo-hoo for me, right?

But the class was really good for someone like me, or more to the point someone in my profession.  It was a way to be hands on while also forcing you to think harder than just making a few mouse clicks.

But anyway.  So about 5 days before my last class, I started thinking about my last work.  I even opened it up for comment / suggestion on Facebook and Twitter.  My initial thought was Elvis.  One suggested Mr. T.  I had a friend suggest Lincoln in a bloody cage match of sorts. Another liked a Muppet idea I had (doing those two old guys on the balcony).  But in the end it was Elvis after I got a second vote that put him over the edge.

To make things more interesting on my last project, I decided to not do a woodcut and instead do a linocut (linoleum mounted on a block) and used a type-high proof table instead of the spoon-to-paper method of wood cut that we had been doing for the rest of the class (it was an intro class – and my long term goal is letterpress).

So the image on the right is the carving, and the image on the left was the result.  I printed 10, and only a few had the ink coverage I was going for.
But anyway, that’s the end of that class.  I’m hoping to have more time for this in the near future, but we’ll see.  I made a few good contacts in the class.
