I’m able to read a little more this morning than usual, and I ran into music news about one of my favorite bands — Radiohead. The news is that they just finished their new album, and it’ll be released in 10 days. It wasn’t expected until next year.
Now for the really cool part. It’ll be available for download at that time from their website. The person downloading it only has to pay what they want. Read that last sentence over again to let it sink in… If you want to pay $5 for the album – so be it. If you want to pay nothing for the album – so be it.
Many speculators are saying that this is their take on how to combat piracy. I think it’s pretty cool. Possibly revolutionary (but time will tell on that).
How were they able to do this? Because they are doing this without a record company behind them. Their last album fulfilled their contract, and now they can write their won ticket. I personally think the RIAA and MPAA are two of the most evil companies in america with the likes of Wal-Mart and Haliburton.
Regardless of whether you like them or not, what Radiohead is doing is awesome.
But I am just very amazed at how this dropped and curious to see how this is going to play out.

It’s a good thing the album was free … I like 2 songs off the whole thing.

I haven’t had a chance to listen to it, but I usually give Radiohead albums a few months to set in.
I only liked a few songs on Kid A for a while until a year or two later. Now it’s most of the album.
Of course I resisted liking them at all because I despise their two most famous songs (Creep and Karma Police).
