I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably keep saying it until everyone knows what I’m talking about, but I love the DVR. Some call it the TiVo. Sometimes we call it the Devo as a combination of the two words. But if you don’t know what it is, it’s a fantastic device saving us from crappy advertising and also the only reason we pay for cable.
Anyway, so I recorded the first two installments of Nightmares and Dreamscapes on TNT. It is an 8-part series based on the short stories of Stephen King. And while I’m not a complete Stephen King aficionado, I do appreciate the impact he’s had literally and on cinema.
So the first installment was titled “Battleground” with William Hurt that has no dialogue and was played without commercial interruption. It wasn’t half bad… but unlike anything good, I don’t need to see it again.
Immediately following this episode was one titled “Crouch End” (insert inappropriate joke here). This starred Eion Bailey (who?) and Claire Forlani (otherwise known as Claire “I’ve been crying all day” Forlani, or Claire “for the love of god I can’t act” Forlani). Needless to it’s easy to figure out why this was on basic cable as a second feature on a Wednesday evening.
Thankfully the aforementioned DVR assisted in watching much of the second feature at 2x speed with no audio. Doing so only stopped my opinion of the series and Ms. Forlani from going completely the way of Waterworld. But sometimes you need something like a Forlani-vehicle to remind you just how good Brittany Murphy is in comparison…
